Who Will Replace The Guardians After Guardians Of The Galaxy 3

They boldly dance to classic rock and roll where no one has danced before! They surprised everyone by one of the most obscure franchises the MCU adapted at the time and shot James Gunn to super-stardom. They steal, they shoot, they fight and they keep the Galaxy safe from… well, from things that are quite a bit more criminal than they are. They are The Guardians of the Galaxy…

And they are about to retire.

According to James Gunn, the beloved team consisting of Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Groot, Rocket and Mantis will have their final outing in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – at least, if it is up to him. But like so many other hero teams across comic books, the Guardians have a long, rich history in the comic books and have gone through many, many other members than the ones we know and love best today. In fact, that bunch weren’t even the original Guardians!

So before you chuck that totally awesome mixtape in the trash and swear off the Guardians forever, let’s dig through the comics for a moment and find some of the many, many crazy characters that Marvel has to offer.

From earthbound human heroes who stumble their way into cosmic power, to animals that get launched into space, funny-looking aliens and even beings that may as well be Gods, the universe is truly vast, and its selection of Guardians almost as huge. And there are plenty of options with which to create an all-new team of Guardians that is both quite similar, and quite different, than those we know.
