What Stranger Things Looks Like Without CGI

Getting To Grips With The Upside-Down

1980s nostalgia has been gripping the world for about a decade now, with sequels to Ghostbusters and Star Wars – and Indiana Jones incoming – in our cinemas, big synths and huge Phil Collins drumbeats filling our pop music… and, of course, Netflix’s biggest original hit, the Stephen King meets Steven Spielberg sci-fi blockbuster Stranger Things.

Created by the Duffer Brothers, this streaming smash has sent its child stars – including Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard – to the top of Hollywood’s youth A-list, with young lovers Eleven and Mike hitting the big screen in the likes of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, IT and IT: Chapter 2. Not to mention giving bona fide 80s legend Winona Ryder the meaty new dramatic role she always deserved.

Demogorgons, Mind Flayers, Dart, the Upside Down, Dungeons and Dragons, David Cronenberg, Sam Raimi, Tangerine Dream, John Carpenter – it’s a melting point of influences, inspirations and homages that has delighted audiences all over the world, and made what might originally have been a modest cult hit into part of the cultural zeitgeist.

In this video, ScreenRant are going to go behind the scenes, and take a look at all four seasons of Stranger Things without the CGI. How does the VFX breakdown – and what can we expect in the upcoming Season 4?

Join Screen Rant as we head back to Hawkins, Indiana to see exactly what kind of computer magic is used to create the monsters and mayhem we’ve grown to love.
