Jack Ryan Season 3: 20 Things You Missed

In the Ryanverse, economics professors lead sexy double lives as action analysts in Tom Clancy’s series of super spy novels. The first book in the series was also the first book to get an adaptation with the wildly successful Hunt for Red October starring Alec Baldwin and Sean Connery about a Russian submarine captain trying to defect to the US with his new experimental super sub. Since then there have been a total of five actors to play the action analyst over the course of five movies and a streaming series on Amazon Prime. John Krasinski has returned finally for the long delayed third and penultimate season of the show and it’s brought with it a number of callbacks to the previous seasons as well as allusions and updates to the novels that make up the Ryanverse. The first season loosely adapted the core plot of Patriot Games while the second season had echoes of Clear and Present Danger. The third season takes on The Sum of All Fears with a seasoning of Hunt for Red October sprinkled in for taste. Ryan has committed to his role as super spy, and like a proper super spy his own agency has turned against him, leaving even more opportunities for some callbacks and references. Between nods to the novels and the speed run for the upcoming fourth season there’s a smorgasbord of discoveries in Amazon’s flagship spy series. What allusion to the books did you find this season?
